You might think a gift registry is old school. Maybe you think it’s tacky. You don’t want to seem greedy “asking” for gifts.

Well guess what?!

People are going to buy you a gift for your wedding anyway. It may as well be something you would like and can use.

With that being said, you don’t have to go overboard. A gift registry can be as simple or as crazy as you want.

I was married at 27 and had been living on my own for a while. My husband was in the same boat (29) We had many of the common household items already. We used our Target gift registry as a way to upgrade and update some of the items we already were using. Once we received gift items, we were able to “donate” our starter items to younger siblings.

Maybe this is your circumstance, maybe not.

If you are new and just starting out, think of the little things. You and your future spouse might need a lot as you get settle into married life. Register for items such as towels, measuring cups and even serving spoons. All these things add up and when you are just getting started.

A traditional gift registry might not be your thing, that is okay. Contact your local travel agent and have them set up a “honeymoon registry” for you. This way, you can go on your dream honeymoon or do extra excursions while there if you already have one planned.

Tech savvy? Amazon has a gift registry as well. You don’t even need to leave your home- and neither do your guests. This is very convenient for those who might be traveling from afar (or celebrating from afar). Nothing beats 2 day prime shipping.

If you truly don’t need or want anything for your wedding, there are registry options for you too. Ask guests to donate to your favorite (or their favorite) charity in lieu of wedding gifts. There is a worthy cause out there that could use your support, trust me.

Now that we have established why you should register and gone over some options- consider these etiquette suggestions.

  • DO NOT – I repeat do not put your registry information on your wedding invites. This is tacky. Your registry information goes two places. (1) your wedding website (2) your shower invites. People will find out your registry information.
  • Register for different items at different price points. You want your guests to have options that fit the budget. Registering for only high end items is not the way to go.
  • Check on your registry often. If the selection for people to pick from is dwindling- add more items. This is really important in the two weeks leading up to a shower or your wedding day.
  • After every shower, after every party and after every gift is opened- Send a “Thank You”. A handwritten message is the way to go. There is nothing sweeter than a personalized “Thank You” expressing gratitude for a gift received. You might not dig the squirrel feeder your cousin gave you- but they thought it was neat. They thought you would like it. That is what matters.

Even though a gift registry might seem like a thing of the past, it’s not. There is a reason why they exist and most importantly- why you should have one.

You get married one time, embrace the motions. Just get registered.

Prom Trends 2016

Prom season is in full swing and we couldn’t be more thrilled! The dresses seem to get prettier every year. With each new shipment, we can’t help but wish we were going to  prom!

Although they are unique in their own way, we are seeing some underlying trends across the 2016 collection.

  • Sequins. Nothing will create more “oh” and “awe” at grand march then the almost alive effect that a full sequin dress will create.
  • Two Piece. Tastefully done, our designers are creating styles that show just the very top of the mid-driff. No worries here for the modest parent.
  • Floral Print. A few pieces from the 2016 collection feature a floral pattern on them. We are forecasting this as a dominate style trend for 2017. This will likely translate onto bridesmaid and social occasion styles as well.
  • High neck-low back. We are even seeing an almost collar effect with some of the pieces. Most of the time, if the neckline is high- the back-line is low. The mix creates the perfect balance.
  • Aztec inspiration. From beading patterns to prints, we are seeing Aztec inspired themes on many styles.

 

New Year New You 2016

Have the holidays left you feeling full? We are not talking about the fullness of your heart after spending time with loved ones and friends. We are talking about the fullness of eating to many cookies, drinking too much wine, and overall overindulgence.

With 2016 just days away, there is no better time to get started on feeling in control again.

Below are our favorite suggestions for getting motivated and started on feeling better.

  • Just get moving. No one ever went for a run, to a yoga class or even spent a good deal of time on the elliptical and felt worse after. Exercise releases endorphin’s. Endorphin’s make us feel good.
  • Drink up! Put down that wine glass and grab a water bottle. Don’t have one? Go get a new fancy one that makes you excited to drink from. Water flushes toxins from your system and promotes all around healthy body function.
  • Be nice. If you are nice to people, they are nice back- most of the time. Spread the happiness and you will get it back. For those who are not nice, brighten there day with a smile.
  • Stay organized. A clean work-space is a happy work-space.
  • Read. They say smart people read. Celebrity gossip counts, technically it’s reading. Plus it makes that time fly by while doing cardio.
  • Buy new workout gear. New clothes just make a person feel good.
  • Add some fiber and protein to your diet. You hear it all the time- all. the. time. But do you know why? Fiber and protein make you feel fuller longer. If you feel fuller longer, you won’t overeat.
  • Set goals- that you can achieve. Once you have met your goal- no matter how small, you will feel good. Finish a book, drink 8 glasses of water a day, eat breakfast. Start small.

There are so many ways to make 2016 your best year. Take small steps steps today and tomorrow will surely be better.

 

 

 

Healthy You: Cookie Season

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, the holidays. Family and friends are almost always accompanied by cookies, treats and other “Pinterest” recipes. Although they taste good at the time, these seemingly  unavoidable foods will stay with us long past the holidays if we are not careful.

The struggle is real.

We may or may not be quite the cookie connoisseurs ourselves and have figured out these little tips to help us through this tough time.

1.Friends Share

So the treat platter has 6 different selections to choose from, how will you ever decide? The answer is easy: Pick them all. Get enough to SHARE. That’s right, put all the selections on one plate and bring them back to your table. Try each one out without committing to the entire portion.
2.Stay active
Cookies+ Sit= More to cuddle
Cookies+ Go to the gym= Same amount to cuddle and the joy of cookies
Think of it this way, you can easily burn 100 or so calories doing the following. Running 1 mile, 10 minutes of elliptical work, 1 hour of yoga, or 30 minutes of weight lifting. Commit to being active a few times a week and you are paving the way for success.

3.Search for Healthy

Another way to avoid carrying those treats into 2016 is to simply make them healthier. Instead of searching “Holiday Cookies” on Pinterest, try “Healthy Holiday Cookies” – the possibilities are endless. Who knew flaxseed vegan dough balls could look so pretty?
 4.Just avoid it
Just kidding!
 If you read that and considered it, we are amazed. To us, this is not possible. You are stronger than we are.
At the end of the day, we are human and we have a sweet tooth. Cookies and other holiday treats are a part of life and we choose to embrace it. Enjoy this holiday season! It only comes once a year.

A scratchy black tuxedo is no longer the norm when it comes to today’s menswear. The modern groom wants to look and feel as amazing in his wedding day frocks.

We have started to see a shift in the formal menswear industry, especially in 2015.  It’s really become all about individuality and is very personality focused.

Narrow shawl lapels are replacing the once thick satin styles that are reminiscent of the high school prom.

Other than traditional black, white or ivory; today’s groom has a full spectrum of colors to choose from. Navy is gaining popularity. We are seeing shades of gray every weekend.

Not everyone wants a colorful vest to match the wedding color scheme. Suspenders, fabric vests and even cummerbunds are among the new selections. Designers are really providing so many choices. Every groom can truly create a custom look.

Modern day menswear is all about the fit. Today’s groom wants the convenience of a rental but the fit of a tailor-made suit. Designers are responding to this request. There are now three available “fits” to ensure the best look.

Today’s groom has so many more choices when it comes to his wedding day attire. Gone are the days when the only personal touch to his get up was the vest color.

Healthy You: Tips to Feel Great today!

May showers bring June flowers? If this is the case, it’s going to be gorgeous very soon.

With the weather changing and both wedding and swimsuit season quickly approaching, the time to feel good is now.

Below are some easy tips to stay fit and feel your best today!

Did you know there are 3500 calories in a pound? That means the average person needs to cut only 500 calories per day to lose one pound a week. Simply pass on that second slice or opt for black coffee over that latte.

It takes only 3 weeks for a new “thing” to become a habit. Use this information for good! Make your new “thing” something healthy. Aim for 300 crunches before bed each night, no snacking after supper, or eliminate soda.

Drink more water! Good old H20 is the ultimate “fuel” that keeps your body moving. Make sure you are getting at least 64oz per day. That is 8 glasses or 4 of the typical (16 oz) size water bottle.

Don’t be a hater. It’s so much easier to feel good when you are nice to yourself. Positive reinforcement is the ultimate driver for success. Did you overeat? Miss a workout? It’s okay! You are a human, not a machine.

Run! or walk or bike or swim. It doesn’t matter just move. Exercise creates these little drugs called endorphin’s. They feel great and make us happy. Best thing about them? They are free and legal. You have to tap into that energy inside to get them though. Try it out, you’ll be glad you did.

Shop the outside parameters of the grocery store. This is where to good stuff is. Your cart should be filled with food that is colorful, fresh, and that expires within a week or two. When you eat more nutritious food, you feel and look better. Nutritious food has vitamins and other good stuff that your body likes.

Graze, like a cow. Ever notice how cows are always eating? Follow suit. Aim for small meals or snacks (200-300 calories) every 3-4 hours. You will never feel too full and bogged down and will also never be starved and ready to binge.

“Break-Fast” Wake up, Eat up. Your up and ready to go, help your body get going too. Eat something with carbs and protein within an hour of rising. Try oatmeal or an egg with berries. This gets your metabolism moving and helps your body run better throughout the day.
