Say YES to the dress: Tip for shopping success

You said YES to the groom, now it’s time to say YES to the dress!

The appointment is made, your Pinterest board is complete and you are ready to shop.

There are certain items you should have with you at your appointment that will make your experience easier and more pleasant. 

  1. A nude strapless bra
  2. Nude heels or your wedding shoes if you already have them
  3. Simple Jewelry (if any at all)

There are also some things you can do that will help you visualize better.

  1. Have your hair somewhat “done”  – your consultant will put at least one accessory item in your hair. A bridal appointment is not complete without at least trying on one veil.
  2. Wear neutral or very minimal makeup. You want the focus to really be on the dress.
  3. Eat light before, you don’t want to be starving while making such an important decision.
  4. Bring one or two important people with you. An entire entourage will make the decision process harder.

When are you having a baby?

“So, when are you having a baby?”

How many times have you been asked this question?

If you are planning a wedding, recently married or engaged-the chances are pretty likely.

Eager friends and family members just can’t wait!

Maybe you have plans to start (or expand) your family right after the ceremony. Then again, maybe you just don’t know.  Below are our favorite answers to the popular question.

  • We already have one and she/he is perfect! (This works with a fur baby just the same)
  • Although it’s been fun trying, we aren’t really sure just yet.
  • What a great question… I wish we knew the answer!
  • At least 9 months from now.
  • Well I just married one, not sure if I want more yet.
  • As soon as we get through our student loans, we don’t want to pay for tuition and diapers at the same time.
  • We aren’t sure, what about you?
  • We might start trying in _____  years/months
  • For now, we are just going to enjoy being married. No one knows what the future holds.

Say YES to these shower themes!


It’s inevitable, you are going to have a bridal shower. Traditionally, you will get a corsage or flower pinned to your dress. Then, a series of somewhat embarrassing games will be played. Next, you will be served cake and punch -followed by coffee. Last, you will be showered with gifts. Some brides get 2, 3 or even more showers.

Although we are truly grateful for these celebrations- sometimes a break from tradition is needed. 

A bridal shower can be thrown by family, friends or even co-workers- really anyone who wants to celebrate your getting married.

Your shower does not have to play out like the above, you are a modern bride. You can help in the planning of and the events that take place at your party.

Below are some awesome new ideas we have seen and heard of from our brides:

A grown up tea party! Gather at your local coffee shop and have a real high tea. Serve hot and iced tea with an assortment of fine pastry items and finger food. Don’t forget the sugar cubes and milk. Spice it up by wearing cute dresses and hats.

Get a little sassy with a lingerie inspired shower. This one might be better attended by friends or co-workers. Make sure the hostess knows your panty and bra size. Marriage lasts forever, you can never have enough sassy clothes.

Love to bake? How about everyone bring their favorite sweets recipe along with a baking dish or serving piece. Each guest can share about their “sweet” gift and a memorable bonding experience will be had.

Maybe cooking is your thing- use the same concept as above.

Wine and Chocolate? Beer and Bacon? – Although we prefer the former, this is your party! The menu should fit your tastes.

Showers are a fun time to spend with loved ones- the themes you can use are endless. It’s okay to break away from tradition.



Asking for gifts is tacky, isn’t it?


You might think a gift registry is old school. Maybe you think it’s tacky. You don’t want to seem greedy “asking” for gifts.

Well guess what?!

People are going to buy you a gift for your wedding anyway. It may as well be something you would like and can use.

With that being said, you don’t have to go overboard. A gift registry can be as simple or as crazy as you want.

I was married at 27 and had been living on my own for a while. My husband was in the same boat (29) We had many of the common household items already. We used our Target gift registry as a way to upgrade and update some of the items we already were using. Once we received gift items, we were able to “donate” our starter items to younger siblings.

Maybe this is your circumstance, maybe not.

If you are new and just starting out, think of the little things. You and your future spouse might need a lot as you get settle into married life. Register for items such as towels, measuring cups and even serving spoons. All these things add up and when you are just getting started.

A traditional gift registry might not be your thing, that is okay. Contact your local travel agent and have them set up a “honeymoon registry” for you. This way, you can go on your dream honeymoon or do extra excursions while there if you already have one planned.

Tech savvy? Amazon has a gift registry as well. You don’t even need to leave your home- and neither do your guests. This is very convenient for those who might be traveling from afar (or celebrating from afar). Nothing beats 2 day prime shipping.

If you truly don’t need or want anything for your wedding, there are registry options for you too. Ask guests to donate to your favorite (or their favorite) charity in lieu of wedding gifts. There is a worthy cause out there that could use your support, trust me.

Now that we have established why you should register and gone over some options- consider these etiquette suggestions.

  • DO NOT – I repeat do not put your registry information on your wedding invites. This is tacky. Your registry information goes two places. (1) your wedding website (2) your shower invites. People will find out your registry information.
  • Register for different items at different price points. You want your guests to have options that fit the budget. Registering for only high end items is not the way to go.
  • Check on your registry often. If the selection for people to pick from is dwindling- add more items. This is really important in the two weeks leading up to a shower or your wedding day.
  • After every shower, after every party and after every gift is opened- Send a “Thank You”. A handwritten message is the way to go. There is nothing sweeter than a personalized “Thank You” expressing gratitude for a gift received. You might not dig the squirrel feeder your cousin gave you- but they thought it was neat. They thought you would like it. That is what matters.

Even though a gift registry might seem like a thing of the past, it’s not. There is a reason why they exist and most importantly- why you should have one.

You get married one time, embrace the motions. Go to the store or grab your laptop – and get registered. 



Your Bridal Appointment: Tips for Success

Your bridal appointment experience will be one of the most memorable parts of your planning adventure. Follow our top tips to ensure your success. 

  1. Bring  one or two people. Not too many more. A big entourage may seem like a good idea at the time, however, too many opinions can make for a heartbreaking experience. All wedding gowns are gorgeous, it’s about finding the one that makes YOU feel the best.
  2. Avoid excess alcohol and salt the day before You want to be able to experience how you will look and feel in your dress. If your a little puffy, sleepy or have a headache it’s a little more challenging to see the big picture. Style your hair extra pretty and wear a little heavier makeup.
  3. Wear nude undergarments and leave the bright colored socks at home. Nothing takes away from that breathtaking moment than a pair of neon socks adorned with cats.
  4. Prepare to find “the one”. You never know when it will happen. For some it’s the 1st dress, for some it’s the 12th. You might get that butterfly feeling, all teary eyed and just know. You might find your dress through process of elimination. The experience is different for every bride. Rest assured though, it will happen.
  5. Have an idea of what you are looking for. Make sure your stylist knows about your wedding, the colors, the location and has an idea of how you want to feel on your big day. If she isn’t asking these questions, she should be.

Bridal Fantasy Show is Tomorrow! Prepare with our top tips

Bridal Fantasy Show is tomorrow 10.25.15 and A Grand Bridal Event is next Sunday 11.1.15. We can hardly contain our excitement! Are you ready to plan?

Below are our top tips on making your experience at the show the best it can be:

  • Get there early, have a plan for the day. You know there will be booths to see and vendors to talk to. Many of the vendors have show incentives, be ready to take advantage of them. It might be a FREE VEIL to wear at the show for making an appointment to come and look at bridal gowns and maids dresses. (hint, hint)
  • Bring labels. Some booths will have door prizes. To save ink (and your hand) simply bring pre-printed labels with your information already on them.
  • Have a special wedding email address! You love getting emails about planning but have a hard time staying on task at work when all you see is planning and wedding related emails. This is a good way to keep work and planning separate.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. Show days are meant for walking around, leave your cute heels at home for the bachlorette party night.
  • Eat before you come. The day gets long and cupcake samples are awesome but not so filling. A hungry bride will surely not have as much fun.
  • Stay the whole time! To be eligible for the grand prize package give-a-way, you must be present to win. It’s quite the experience to watch.
  • Bring your entourage! The more the merrier. Not only is it a super fun way to spend time with your besties, but it’s fun to share the experience with the ladies you are closest to.

Healthy YOU: Navigating Pumpkin Season

The leaves are turning and pumpkin flavor everything is all over the place. Oh how we love Fall.


It’s so easy on these brisk mornings and dark evenings to cozy up on the couch and snuggle in.

Way too easy. Trust us.

The only more comforting than a soft blanket and your significant other is chocolate. And snacks. Maybe some Halloween candy too. (Fun size means more, right?)


Summer is not that far gone and Spring is right around the corner. The way far corner, but it’s still coming. So is wedding season. Remember that when you get the whip on your pumpkin spice latte.

Here are a few tips we like that help ease into the chilly weather without losing our calorie count completely.

  1. Drink Water. Warm or hot water specifically. Water helps to curb hunger and warmer water keeps you satisfied and cozy.
  2. Search sites like Pinterest and Spark People for healthier pumpkin flavored goodies that are easier on the scale.
  3. Bundle up and tough it out. You can still enjoy the outdoors, just break out those cute boots and scarf.
  4. Move your workout indoors. Take the hold off your gym membership or pop in a workout DVD.
  5. Soup it up! Soup is so entirely delicious, especially in the Fall. It’s also very filling and can be one of the healthiest options for comfort food.
  6. Make your own hot chocolate. So easy. Mix 1-2 TBSP of coccoa powder + 8oz of your favorite milk + 1 tsp of sugar. Thin out with water or add more powder for more thickness. Clean, healthy, and warm.
