De-stress with Yoga

We know wedding planning is stressful. If soaking in the tub and wine aren’t doing the trick, try some yoga.

Yoga is a one of the oldest and best stress relievers for your body.

It’s not only good for stress relief, it’s also a low impact form of exercise that is good for your mind too.

Below our some of our favorite poses:

Child’s Pose

Like a child, this pose puts you in a fetal position. It relaxes every part of your body – releasing tension especially in the lower back.

child pose

Mountain Pose

This balance pose helps to work on concentration. It brings your attention to the present. Thinking of the past can be depressing, thinking of the future can make you anxious. Being and living in the present is the way to go.

Tree pose

Downward Dog

Similar to child’s pose, downward dog releases tension over your entire body.

Down Dog

Corpse Pose

Just like the name sounds, you simply lay on your back with arms at your sides. Focus on deep breathing as you release stress through your fingertips.

Back on track: Healthy YOU!

Now that the holidays are completely over, 2017 is in full force. It’s time to get motivated and be the best version of you!

Easier said than done, right? Wrong.

Follow our simple steps below and watch your self control return and those extra holiday pounds fall away as quickly as they came on.

Increase you fiber and protein intake. You hear this all the time, and for good reason. Fiber and protein keep you fuller longer. Also, a high fiber and protein mixture will typically be found in healthier eating choices.

Eat when your hungry, not because you are bored. This is something so obvious but so hard. Food tastes good, especially the bad for you stuff. It’s instant gratification and something to “do” while you are sitting on the couch watch T.V. Trade the pretzels for some herbal tea. It still has flavor and keeps your hands busy.

You have to move more. Join a Fitbit challenge, take the stairs, park further away- do what you have to. Moving burns calories- calories are what you need to burn to lose weight.

Try to make muscle. Muscle burns fat- it looks better too. The easiest way to do this is by lifting weights. If the gym isn’t your thing, try doing body weight exercises from home. Push-ups, lunges, dips and squats can all be done in your living room.

Get motivated. Sites such as Pinterest or Instagram  are full images that will get you motivated. Maybe it’s a tropical beach that will remind you of summer, a photo of your wedding gown or simply a quote. Find out what gets you going.

Say YES to these shower themes!

Aside

It’s inevitable, you are going to have a bridal shower. Traditionally, you will get a corsage or flower pinned to your dress. Then, a series of somewhat embarrassing games will be played. Next, you will be served cake and punch -followed by coffee. Last, you will be showered with gifts. Some brides get 2, 3 or even more showers.

Although we are truly grateful for these celebrations- sometimes a break from tradition is needed.

A bridal shower can be thrown by family, friends or even co-workers- really anyone who wants to celebrate your getting married.

Your shower does not have to play out like the above, you are a modern bride. You can help in the planning of and the events that take place at your party.

Below are some awesome new ideas we have seen and heard of from our brides:

A grown up tea party! Gather at your local coffee shop and have a real high tea. Serve hot and iced tea with an assortment of fine pastry items and finger food. Don’t forget the sugar cubes and milk. Spice it up by wearing cute dresses and hats.

Get a little sassy with a lingerie inspired shower. This one might be better attended by friends or co-workers. Make sure the hostess knows your panty and bra size. Marriage lasts forever, you can never have enough sassy clothes.

Love to bake? How about everyone bring their favorite sweets recipe along with a baking dish or serving piece. Each guest can share about their “sweet” gift and a memorable bonding experience will be had.

Maybe cooking is your thing- use the same concept as above.

Wine and Chocolate? Beer and Bacon? – Although we prefer the former, this is your party! The menu should fit your tastes.

Showers are a fun time to spend with loved ones- the themes you can use are endless. It’s okay to break away from tradition.

Buying Suits is better… or is it?

Rather than renting menswear for your wedding, your considering just purchasing suits. It’s cheaper and everyone can use a suit… right? Not necessarily.

This popular thinking is very popular among couples right now. For some weddings, this is a great choice. For most though, rentals are a better idea. You are given a better product at a lesser price.

Weighing out the pros and cons of purchasing versus renting is so important before making your decision.

Myth: Suits are cheaper.

Reality: Suits are the purchase of a jacket and pant (sometimes a vest).  Yes,  those two pieces might carry a minimal cost. Ask yourself this..

Are the gentleman in your party going sans shirts, shoes and accessory?

We hope not! Along with the purchase of a suit comes the rental or purchase of a shirt, vest and tie, shoe, cuff-links  and pocket square. Shoes also need to be considered. Not everyone will have an acceptable pair of shoes at hand. Purchasing or even just renting these items will add up quickly.

Also, suits require alterations to obtain ideal fit. Not only does this add to the budget. It requires time and an appointment.

Myth: Everyone can use a suit.

Reality: Not everyone can actually use a suit. Today, most professional jobs only require “business casual”. Most people do not wear suits to work. As far as other social events go, the average person only attends a formal event every 2 years. Most formal events are also “business casual”…

If you are thinking they can wear it in another wedding, think again. Each designer has a unique fabric, fit and lapel style. Even thought you have impeccable taste..the selection for your big day will likely not be the same as someone else.

Myth: Rentals are so expensive

Reality: Most full service stores offer a free groom and discounts of up to $50 off each additional rental. The savings, especially during bridal shows and peak booking season can be amazing. You can easily gain leverage with a large wedding party.

Myth: Buying gets you a better product.

Reality: Renting gets you a better product. A typical rental coat and pant would retail for $500-$800. They are made from fine fabrics, high thread count wool (meaning a soft feel) and have a designer name brand behind them. The typical suit is purchased for around $100. The suit is $100 suit. They are polyester, imported from China and have no designer or brand name to stand behind them. It’s nice for day use or for a guest to wear to your wedding. Next to your bridal gown, your perfect dress- it might look a little cheap.

Myth: At least we can try a suit on…

Reality: Your full service store will offer a complete try on for you before you make your final decision. If you are on the fence about accessory items or unsure of fit. You can try it on.

Even though it’s popular right now, and might seem like a good idea- consider your options before making your final decision to purchase suits. It’s your wedding day- your wedding photographs. The average bridal gown costs $1589 .. what would it look best next to?

Rentals get a bad rep sometimes. Today, styles are different than they were when you went to prom. Found something on Pinterest? Rent it. It will complete the other half to your perfect wedding look.

Say YES to your undergarments!

For the most part, the garments you wear underneath your wedding gown are anything but sexy. Save your scandalous lingerie for the honeymoon ladies. We have broken down the basics below.

Spanx- aka a girl’s best friend

They go all the way up to where your under-wire would be and all the way down to just above your knee. Not only do these provide some much needed shaping for your midsection, they are can aid in chaffing prevention. If you invest in the real deal (not the ones sold at Target) they will also not roll down or cut into your legs.

Bra Cups

These are essential. Who wants to deal with straps or a bra band that won’t stay put? These are simply a molded bra without the straps or band. Your seamstress or alterations person will just sew them right into your gown. Most bridal gowns have enough structure and support within them, these just provide a little shaping.

Hoop Skirt or Crinoline

Either of these items will serve two purposes. First of all, they add a little extra volume to the skirt of your gown. Secondly, they help keep your skirt off your legs.

Garter

Although this lovely little accessory item is seemingly intended for use under your dress, there is no real need to actually wear it. If you are auctioning, selling or otherwise interacting with this garment: do not wear it all day. It will get sweaty.

Other odds and ends

Just because your dress is backless or charmuese doesn’t mean there isn’t undergarments for you. Where there is will, there is a way. Here are some of the newest products available.

Alternative Bachelorette Party Ideas

Jumping on the old party bus and bar hopping not your idea of a good time? You are not alone.  We have come up with some alternative bachelorette party ideas for you to celebrate with your girls before “I do”

How about a lake day?

Day drinking or sober, who doesn’t love a day at the lake! Relax and get some sun with your favorite ladies. End the day with an all out buffet of your favorite summer food and Smores’s.

Go to the Races!

Horses or cars: who doesn’t love the thrill of a good race? It’s an event that everyone can attend and dress up for. You’ll surely attract (the good kind) attention.

What about a girly spa day?

Manicures, pedicures and even a blowout are all affordable fun ways to glam up with the girls pre-wedding. Relaxation is key for wedding planning.

A grown up tea party

Gather the girls for finger sandwiches, scones and muffins. Most coffee shops have an area for informal parties and gatherings. Who doesn’t want to drink tea out of a fancy cup? Pinkie’s up!

Embarrassing Prom Trends from the Past

Prom is upon us. Every year the dresses get prettier and the stakes are higher to have ‘THE DRESS’ the whole school is talking about. But at what cost? Cool today, embarrassing years after high school.

Like all other fashion trends, there are certain ones we are happy to see go. Below we have listed some prom trends that we are embarrassed to ever have thought were cool.

Did someone tell them the bigger their sleeves were the smaller their waists look? Seriously though, were these even comfortable?

Bows. In un-flattering places. All presents should come wrapped with a bow, but if these dresses were gifts- we would return them.

Too much. Way to much. Where were these girls parents? Those who attended these grand march’s must have felt uncomfortable.

No words but had to share.

Happy Friday!

Buy Suits or Rent Tuxes?

The question so many modern grooms are asking.  Should we rent tuxes? Wouldn’t it be cheaper to buy a suit?

There are pros and cons to both options. At the end of the day, there is no right and wrong- each wedding party is completely unique and so is their formalwear choice.

Renting Tuxedos:

This is the most common option, and for good reason. First of all, it’s easy. You select the attire and the guys just go and get sized. Tuxes come in the week of the wedding and everyone can just pick them up. After the wedding is over, they can simply be dropped back off. No cleaning, no fuss- nothing to keep track of. Also, many times there are attractive rental discounts where a couple can get free rentals and save up to $40 off each rental.

Buying Suits:

This option is rapidly gaining popularity among couples. Who wouldn’t want a nice new suit? Many times the gentleman in your party can purchase a brand new jacket and pants for around $160 and sometimes less. This is perfect for the casual groom who wears suits to work or gets dressed up regularly. For weddings where this isn’t the case, the new suit will likely spend much of it’s time hanging in the back of a closet. Don’t forget tailoring and accessory items are extra.

Renting Suits:

This is a happy medium. The gentleman have all the benefits of renting (discounts, freebies, ease of picking up and dropping off). They don’t need to worry about getting to a tailor finding and paying for accessory’s. Many times, the rental suits are of higher quality than their “for purchase” counterparts. They will fit better and look nicer in photographs.
