Say YES to the dress: Tip for shopping success

You said YES to the groom, now it’s time to say YES to the dress!

The appointment is made, your Pinterest board is complete and you are ready to shop.

There are certain items you should have with you at your appointment that will make your experience easier and more pleasant.

  1. A nude strapless bra
  2. Nude heels or your wedding shoes if you already have them
  3. Simple Jewelry (if any at all)

There are also some things you can do that will help you visualize better.

  1. Have your hair somewhat “done”  – your consultant will put at least one accessory item in your hair. A bridal appointment is not complete without at least trying on one veil.
  2. Wear neutral or very minimal makeup. You want the focus to really be on the dress.
  3. Eat light before, you don’t want to be starving while making such an important decision.
  4. Bring one or two important people with you. An entire entourage will make the decision process harder.

Say YES to these shower themes!

Aside

It’s inevitable, you are going to have a bridal shower. Traditionally, you will get a corsage or flower pinned to your dress. Then, a series of somewhat embarrassing games will be played. Next, you will be served cake and punch -followed by coffee. Last, you will be showered with gifts. Some brides get 2, 3 or even more showers.

Although we are truly grateful for these celebrations- sometimes a break from tradition is needed.

A bridal shower can be thrown by family, friends or even co-workers- really anyone who wants to celebrate your getting married.

Your shower does not have to play out like the above, you are a modern bride. You can help in the planning of and the events that take place at your party.

Below are some awesome new ideas we have seen and heard of from our brides:

A grown up tea party! Gather at your local coffee shop and have a real high tea. Serve hot and iced tea with an assortment of fine pastry items and finger food. Don’t forget the sugar cubes and milk. Spice it up by wearing cute dresses and hats.

Get a little sassy with a lingerie inspired shower. This one might be better attended by friends or co-workers. Make sure the hostess knows your panty and bra size. Marriage lasts forever, you can never have enough sassy clothes.

Love to bake? How about everyone bring their favorite sweets recipe along with a baking dish or serving piece. Each guest can share about their “sweet” gift and a memorable bonding experience will be had.

Maybe cooking is your thing- use the same concept as above.

Wine and Chocolate? Beer and Bacon? – Although we prefer the former, this is your party! The menu should fit your tastes.

Showers are a fun time to spend with loved ones- the themes you can use are endless. It’s okay to break away from tradition.

New Year New You 2016

Image

Have the holidays left you feeling full? We are not talking about the fullness of your heart after spending time with loved ones and friends. We are talking about the fullness of eating to many cookies, drinking too much wine, and overall overindulgence.

With 2016 just days away, there is no better time to get started on feeling in control again.

Below are our favorite suggestions for getting motivated and started on feeling better.

  • Just get moving. No one ever went for a run, to a yoga class or even spent a good deal of time on the elliptical and felt worse after. Exercise releases endorphin’s. Endorphin’s make us feel good.
  • Drink up! Put down that wine glass and grab a water bottle. Don’t have one? Go get a new fancy one that makes you excited to drink from. Water flushes toxins from your system and promotes all around healthy body function.
  • Be nice. If you are nice to people, they are nice back- most of the time. Spread the happiness and you will get it back. For those who are not nice, brighten there day with a smile.
  • Stay organized. A clean work-space is a happy work-space.
  • Read. They say smart people read. Celebrity gossip counts, technically it’s reading. Plus it makes that time fly by while doing cardio.
  • Buy new workout gear. New clothes just make a person feel good.
  • Add some fiber and protein to your diet. You hear it all the time- all. the. time. But do you know why? Fiber and protein make you feel fuller longer. If you feel fuller longer, you won’t overeat.
  • Set goals- that you can achieve. Once you have met your goal- no matter how small, you will feel good. Finish a book, drink 8 glasses of water a day, eat breakfast. Start small.

There are so many ways to make 2016 your best year. Take small steps steps today and tomorrow will surely be better.

Healthy YOU: Navigating Pumpkin Season

The leaves are turning and pumpkin flavor everything is all over the place. Oh how we love Fall.

Pretty

It’s so easy on these brisk mornings and dark evenings to cozy up on the couch and snuggle in.

Way too easy. Trust us.

The only more comforting than a soft blanket and your significant other is chocolate. And snacks. Maybe some Halloween candy too. (Fun size means more, right?)

Wrong.

Summer is not that far gone and Spring is right around the corner. The way far corner, but it’s still coming. So is wedding season. Remember that when you get the whip on your pumpkin spice latte.

Here are a few tips we like that help ease into the chilly weather without losing our calorie count completely.

  1. Drink Water. Warm or hot water specifically. Water helps to curb hunger and warmer water keeps you satisfied and cozy.
  2. Search sites like Pinterest and Spark People for healthier pumpkin flavored goodies that are easier on the scale.
  3. Bundle up and tough it out. You can still enjoy the outdoors, just break out those cute boots and scarf.
  4. Move your workout indoors. Take the hold off your gym membership or pop in a workout DVD.
  5. Soup it up! Soup is so entirely delicious, especially in the Fall. It’s also very filling and can be one of the healthiest options for comfort food.
  6. Make your own hot chocolate. So easy. Mix 1-2 TBSP of coccoa powder + 8oz of your favorite milk + 1 tsp of sugar. Thin out with water or add more powder for more thickness. Clean, healthy, and warm.

It’s so easy to cozy up into Fall! It’s one of the prettiest times of the year and also a kind of pre-test for the impending cookie season. Follow our favorite ways to keep in check this year.

Cheers!

A Prom Gown for Every Princess: Operation Glass Slipper

A Prom Gown for Every Princess: Operation Glass Slipper

Not every family has the means to purchase a new prom dress for their prom go-er.

Every girl should feel like a princess on her perfect prom day! That is why we donate dresses to Operation Glass Slipper.

Operation Glass Slipper is a MN based non-profit group who wants nothing more than to make sure all girls are able to go to prom. Since 2006 they have been helping girls who otherwise might not be able to, get into a beautiful prom dress. They do this free of charge.

This past month, we were able to donate 40 dresses to their cause. Girls in MN and WI will be able to select their perfect prom gown.

Planning a wedding: by THIS Summer

First of all, Congrats!

Maybe you just got your ring or maybe you just started the planning process. Who says you need a whole year or more to plan your perfect wedding? Follow our tips for planning a wedding in less than 6 months.

1. First things first: Venue and Reception Site

Besides your beloved groom-to-be these are two things you absolutely need to host a wedding celebration.  Call around and check availability. Keep an open mind, a Friday night celebration or even Sunday wedding might get you your dream venue. Other days of sometimes are less expensive.  Your reception venue will either cater in-house or have a list ready for you to select from. Keep it simple.

2. Next comes the dress!

You don’t need weeks of endless shopping to find your perfect gown. As most designers require 6-9 months for delivery, you will most likely be shopping for a gown off the rack. Some stores carry expedited shipping dresses as well. Both options will give you more than enough to chose from. An off the rack gown sometimes will save you money. Your perfect accessories will surely be available at the boutique you find your dress at. Make sure to shop full service so an alterations person will be available.

3. Don’t forget the bridal party

Nearly all bridesmaids designers offer “rush” shipping on their dresses. For a small fee, they will put your order ahead of others to ensure a faster delivery. You still have all the selection you would even if your wedding was a year away. Make sure your besties understand the importance of getting their sizes and deposits in ASAP.

No matter if you are renting tuxes or purchasing suits: menswear only requires about 6 weeks. Just get in touch with the men in your party and make sure they know what sizes are needed and where to go. Out of town gentleman may phone in sizes for convenience.

4. The last of the major elements

You have your venue, your perfect dress and the attendants outfits ready to go. Now it’s time to focus on the rest. Contact entertainment, a florist, a photographer and shop for invites. Secure your deposits and set up meetings to figure out details later. Get those invites mailed at least 6-8 weeks before you say “I do”.

5. Decorations and the details

So much time can be spent on the small stuff. After your major plans are made, you can focus on the little details. Don’t stress over the small stuff- you don’t need everything from your Pinterest board. At the end of the day, you will be married: Mission Accomplished
